The goal of the Philanthropy 3D Project is to improve the understanding and support for foundations among influential leaders in selected Great Lakes region states. Council of Michigan Foundations is the project lead, with Indiana Grantmakers Alliance, Donors Forum of Wisconsin and the Philanthropy Awareness Initiative (PAI) serving as partners in this innovative regional pilot. The project is supported by grants from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation and the Forum of Regional Associations.
Philanthropy faces a deficit of awareness and engagement among influential Americans. According to 2007 and 2008 Harris Interactive polls commissioned by the Packard Foundation for PAI:
