The Indiana Grantmakers Alliance, as the lead agency in partnership with the
Indiana University Center on Philanthropy and the
Indiana Association of United Ways, was awarded a three-year grant by the
Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers in
2000. The grant was used to create a local initiative, originally called
Indiana GIving Ventures (IGIVE), which supported a statewide effort in Indiana to promote
philanthropy and to create new grantmaking entities.
The partners gathered, created, and tested philanthropy
promotion models, resources and materials and focused on three
major promotion efforts:
- Foundation Data Gathering and Reporting
- Communities Building Community Philanthropy TV Program Series
- Outreach Materials and Events for:
- Farmers
- Corporations
- Professional Advisors
- Women
With the end of the initial grant in 2002, the Alliance and
its partners have continued to promote the joys of establishing
permanent giving vehicles for donors who want to make a long
term difference in our state.
- Coalition partners Indiana Grantmakers Alliance and
the Center
on Philanthropy at Indiana University will continue
to gather and report Indiana grantmaking data for ongoing
benchmark and promotion evaluation
- Lead agent Indiana Grantmakers Alliance will serve
as an ongoing source of information and technical assistance
for new grantmakers through, in part, a specific portion
of its Web site that will be dedicated to promoting new
philanthropy and serving new donors
- Partner WFYI
TV 20 (flagship station for Indiana Public Broadcasting
Station, Inc.), in conjunction with our other philanthropy
partners, will continue to produce and promote one of
the nation's first philanthropy television program series,
Communities
Building Community
- New partner Giving Indiana
Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT), the Lilly Endowment Inc.
program to help enhance Indiana's community foundations,
will train and provide tools for philanthropy leaders
to carry on IGIVE's outreach events for the four primary
audiences
